Born from Wing Chun. A new school of thought.
Shan Feng Kung Fu is not simply a Wing Chun school. It is a new interpretation of ancient human observations — a school of martial arts thought that takes Wing Chun as its root and asks what happens when you follow that root all the way down.
Wing Chun provides the architecture. Shan Feng provides the inquiry. Every session is an examination: of structure, of force, of the relationship between body and mind. The classical forms are not preserved as ritual — they are interrogated as living hypotheses.
Why Shan Feng?
A system built for reality.
Shan Feng was developed as a close-range, efficient fighting system — designed to work with body structure and timing rather than size or brute strength. It is largely based on Wing Chun - one of the most studied and widely practised kung fu systems in the world, with a clear internal logic that rewards analytical training.
Economy of movement
Shan Feng eliminates unnecessary motion. Every technique is the shortest path between intent and outcome.
Structure over strength
The system is built on skeletal alignment and force transfer — not muscular effort. Smaller practitioners can generate and redirect significant force through the use of the kinetic chain.
Tactile intelligence
Chi Sao develops reflexive response through contact. You learn to read and react to force before the conscious mind can process it.
Transferable principles
The biomechanical framework of the human body is common to all martial arts. Through systematic study of this phenomenon, Shan Feng can offer a fresh perspective even to experienced practitioners of other disciplines.
The approach
Biomechanics, Not Mysticism
We examine every technique through joint alignment, kinetic chains, and force transfer. We ask not only what the masters did — but why it works. That answer gets trained into the body.
Structural Integrity
Alignment is the foundation of power. Before force can be generated or received, the skeleton must be organized. We train structure before speed.
Kinetic Efficiency
Energy travels through the body in chains. Shan Feng training maps these pathways — eliminating leakage, maximizing transfer, and reducing the cost of every movement.
Adaptive Response
Principles do not change. Applications do. We develop practitioners who understand the underlying mechanics well enough to adapt — not just replicate.
"Research your own experience. Absorb what is useful, reject what is useless, add what is essentially your own."
— Bruce Lee
What you learn
A Complete System
Wing Chun Forms
Siu Nim Tau, Chum Kiu, and Biu Tze — the three foundational forms that encode the system's structural and mechanical principles.
Chi Sao
Tactile sensitivity training. The core of Wing Chun — developing reflexive response through contact rather than visual reaction.
Movement & Distance
Footwork, angling, and distance management. How to enter, exit, and control space while maintaining structural integrity.
Practical Application
Controlled sparring and scenario work that bridges the forms with real, unpredictable conditions.
Applied Psychology, Meditation & Breathing
Mental clarity, breath regulation, and presence under pressure — vitality as an integral part of martial practice, not an afterthought.
Who it's for
Beginners and experienced martial artists
No prior experience required. Shan Feng welcomes complete beginners and provides a clear, structured path from the first session forward.
If you have trained before — in Wing Chun or any other discipline — and felt the gap between what you know and what you can actually do under pressure, this system is built for that question.

The instructor
Sifu Jani Somrak
Sifu Jani Somrak began his Wing Chun training in 1999 under Sifu Horvat and has been teaching since 2004. In 2017 he received his Sifu title from Sifu Emin Boztepe — one of the most prominent Wing Chun practitioners in the world.
He has served as a resident martial artist at the Confucius Institute in Zagreb and as a long-term self-defence instructor at the Department of Kinesiology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb.
Shan Feng Kung Fu is the synthesis of that journey: a system that honours the depth of the Wing Chun tradition while integrating modern biomechanics and a humanistic philosophy of training.
"The martial art is a mirror. What you are able to face on the mat, you will be able to face in life."
— Sifu Jani Somrak

What practitioners say
I recommend it to anyone who wants to develop body, mind and spirit.
My only complaint is that in our last training session we only did 150 push-ups instead of 200...
We are all here to support one another. This is the best martial arts club I have found — with a very approachable teacher.
